Advanced Space Technologies and Experiments in Space

Program Description

The Master's program "Advanced Space Technologies and Experiments in Space" is an innovative educational program of higher education, created as part of the Samara National Research University development program. The program aim is to conduct space research, development and promotion of advanced space technologies.

The program is focused on:

  • preparation of Masters of engineering and technology capable of conducting scientific research, solving complex scientific and technical problems,
  • the formation of project work skills, focused on obtaining new results,
  • the use of advanced space technology.
The main types of professional activity are the development, design and use of nanosatellites to solve the problems of space exploration and development of new technological solutions in the space industry. The program is based on the principle of "learning through research", which is implemented by the world's leading universities. In the process of training, students are provided with many opportunities for the development of creative abilities in the field of fundamental sciences and engineering problems of astronautics, participation in real space projects. Using the example of a rapidly developing new class of spacecraft - nanosatellites, students have the opportunity to take part in all stages of the creation of high-tech space technology: from the idea of conducting a space experiment to the creation and control of a nanosatellite. The unique equipment of the department laboratories assumes widespread use of modern microelectronic and micromechanical technologies in teaching students, provides an opportunity to carry out a full range of tests of spacecraft weighing up to 10 kg. Currently, nanosatellites are used to solve a wide range of fundamental and applied problems, for example, the study of near-Earth space and solar-terrestrial communications, Earth observation, data collection and transmission from remote terminals, control of maritime navigation and air traffic, etc.

Students acquire skills in the

development and design of nanosatellites, scientific research, as well as system engineering, formulation and solution of non-standard scientific and technical problems. During the learning process, students develop the skills of collective project work, focused on obtaining new scientific results and science-intensive technical solutions in the space industry. Students have the opportunity to make presentations at Russian and international conferences, participate in academic mobility programs under agreements with leading universities in Europe and Asia. In the learning process, students widely use modern mathematical packages (Matlab, Mathcad) and specialized computer-aided design systems (SolidWorks).

Training program includes

humanities, social, economic, mathematical and natural sciences. Professional series of disciplines contains such disciplines as machine components, mathematical functional models of space-rocket systems and complexes, material engineering, theory of automatic control, fundamentals of computer-aided design, rocket ballistics and fundamentals of rockets, strength analysis of space-rocket engineering, onboard rocket systems, fundamentals of space-rocket engineering production, etc.

Graduates can work

in the spheres of designing and production of spacecraft boosters, unmanned and manned spacecraft, ground launch systems, in the sphere of production technology of parts, assemblies and spacecraft in whole.

Graduates are aimed to become an engineer or a chief at the sphere of design and technological preproduction, introduction and adaption of CALS-technologies, integrated information control systems. Our graduates work as manufacturing engineers, designers, they carry out research work, they also run the departments and enterprises.
